Varya – a little cat saved from euthanasia

Helping homeless animals often forces volunteers to make life-or-death decisions. The story of Varya the cat is a perfect example of this. It all began in Cheboksary, where a tiny stray cat with a severed tail was brought in for temporary care. The details of her injury remain unclear. However, the volunteers quickly realized that this was a serious case. After some time, the discussion turned to euthanasia. Yet, a compassionate woman saved this poor creature and brought her to Kazan, to the animal shelter "Lyuskin Dom."

A gift of fate

The first thing the shelter staff noticed were Varya’s unusual eyes. Deep, large, and slanted... This cat seems like she’s from another planet. They joked that she came to the shelter "for her beautiful eyes." And this truly became a gift of fate for her. "Lyuskin Dom" is one of the few Russian shelters that specializes in helping terminally ill stray cats.

The volunteers began to rescue Varya. They helped her recover from the consequences of her injury, but due to spinal cord compression, she cannot go to the bathroom on her own. The shelter staff assists her with this. Otherwise, the girl is quite healthy. She has retained her ability to walk, and Varya is very happy about that.

Baby, you are simply cosmic!

This charming and cheerful little cat jumps like a doe, eager to climb as high as she can, as if reaching for the sky and the stars. One of her favorite pastimes is playing with bags. She hides in them and makes rustling sounds. And of course, she is always happy to have good company.

Despite this special need of hers, we hope to find Varya a loving home. She can live in an apartment where she will need proper care and help with using the bathroom. If you decide to take this step, the shelter volunteers will teach you everything you need to know. In the meantime, you can help Varya by sponsoring a Kitty Day or Kitty Week on our website.
