It seems that Stepan was taken home as a kitten. But when he grew up and started marking his territory, instead of the necessary neutering, he was simply put out the door. All summer long, Stepan lived in the stairwell or hung around the store, begging for food. The neighbors fed him, but they wouldn’t let him inside. He managed to survive until the cold weather set in, when he ended up at the animal shelter.

Self-sufficient, yet soulful

Stepan is a cat with character. He is affectionate but self-sufficient. He loves being stroked, but if something goes wrong, he isn’t afraid to show where his personal boundaries lie. He is cautious around his fellow felines: he prefers to be the dominant one or the only cat. He is also careful around children—he isn’t aggressive, but he won't trust them right away. However, he won’t turn down the company of a human; being close is important to him.
